Short writeup:
The 2024 HCI Weighted Assessment 2 on Organic Chemistry, contributed by my current student, stands out impressively. Despite the paper's brevity, it effectively tests students' understanding and higher-order thinking skills, setting it apart from typical assessments.
The questions in this paper are ones I frequently discuss with my students to deepen their understanding beyond lecture notes. This approach renders the cheat sheet provided by HCI nearly useless, as only students who grasp the fundamental principles of organic chemistry can excel. While some questions offer easy marks or test pure memory, the majority demand a solid conceptual understanding, making this paper a valuable tool for achieving top grades.
One minor drawback is that a few questions could have been more probing, similar to A-level standards. However, given the constraints of a Weighted Assessment, the teachers have maximized the potential within the allotted marks.
I highly recommend all students use this paper for topical revision in preparation for their A levels. Attempt it under timed exam conditions and consult a knowledgeable mentor to gain the most benefit.
