Question 2 - Acid-Base Equilibrium, Carboxylic Acids

Short writeup:

In our latest review, we delve into the Anderson-Serangoon Junior College H2 Chemistry Prelim Paper 2, which is intensely focused on Physical Chemistry.

This paper comprehensively tests every K constant in the syllabus, including Chemical Equilibrium, Solubility Product, Acid-Base Equilibrium, and Reaction Kinetics, leaving no stone unturned. However, due to this focus, Organic Chemistry is minimally represented, and there are no questions on electrolysis—unusual for A-level exams.

In prelim papers, I look for a clear anchor question that tests the application of chemistry in real-life scenarios. This paper is highly technical, favoring students who have practiced extensively. My main disappointment is that some questions could have been expanded to provide deeper insights.

Overall, this paper is calculation-heavy and poses a significant challenge for students weak in Physical Chemistry. For most students, it serves well for topical revision. For those struggling with Physical Chemistry, this paper is an excellent practice tool after thorough revision.
